Η παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή εξετάζει τα προβλήματα της θαλάσσιας μεταφοράς των φορτίων μέσω της δρομολόγησης των πλοίων και τον ελλιμενισμό των πλοίων στους λιμένες, για τα οποία αναπτύσσονται καινοτόμοι και πρωτότυποι αλγόριθμοι βελτιστοποίησης για την αντιμετώπισή τους σε πραγματικό χρόνο. Για την επίλυση των συγκεκριμένων προβλήματων επιλέγονται μία σειρά από μεθοδολογίες της τεχνητής νοημοσύνης και πιο συγκεκριμένα από την κατηγορία των αλγόριθμων εμπνευσμένων από φυσικές διαδικασίες. Για το πρόβλημα ελλιμενισμού εξετάζονται δύο διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις με βάση τη δυναμική άφιξη των πλοίων στα λιμάνια. Αντίστοιχα, για το πρόβλημα της θαλάσσιας μεταφοράς φορτίων εξετάζονται η βιομηχανική και η ελεύθερη δρομολόγηση των πλοίων. Στους προτεινόμενους αλγόριθμους ανταπτύσσονται καινούργιες τεχνικές για τη δημιουργία και βελτίωση των παραγόμενων λύσεων με στόχο τη συνολική αύξηση της αποτελεσματικότητας και της απόδοσής τους.
