Εξαιτίας αυτού, κατά καιρούς, έχουν αναπτυχθεί διάφορα μοντέλα για την κατανόηση και ανάλυση των αναγκών των πελατών. Μια ευρέως διαδεδομένη προσέγγιση, είναι το μοντέλο Kano. Πρόκειται για μία, κυρίως, ποιοτική περιγραφή των σχέσεων μεταξύ της εκπλήρωσης των απαιτήσεων του πελάτη και της ικανοποίησης του. Ακριβώς επειδή το μοντέλο περιορίζεται σε ποιοτικές περιγραφές, καθίσταται ελλιπές για την ακριβή απόδοση του βαθμού ικανοποίησης των πελατών. Για το λόγο αυτό, ερευνητές έχουν προτείνει διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις για επέκταση του μοντέλου σε ποσοτική ανάλυση.
