Μέσα από τη συγκεκριμένη διπλωματική διατριβή στόχος είναι να παρουσιαστεί η κατάσταση της ανακύκλωσης στην Περιφερειακή Ενότητα της Κρήτης. Για να μπορέσει να γίνει αυτό χρησιμοποιήθηκε η ποσοτική μεθοδολογία και πιο συγκεκριμένα επιλέχθηκε το ερευνητικό εργαλείο του ερωτηματολογίου, το οποίο μοιράστηκε σε 120 συμμετέχοντες, που κατάγονταν από περιοχές της Κρήτης. Με βάση τα αποτελέσματα που προέκυψαν φάνηκε πως η ανακύκλωση στο νησί βρίσκεται σε πολύ ικανοποιητικά ποσοστά, ενώ οι περισσότεροι από τους συμμετέχοντες γνώριζαν τον τρόπο, με τον οποίο οι ίδιοι μπορούν να ανακυκλώσουν τα υλικά τους. Μάλιστα επικεντρώνονται κυρίως στην ανακύκλωση του γυαλιού και του χαρτιού, χωρίς ωστόσο να ενημερώνονται ιδιαίτερα γύρω από τις διαδικασίες που ακολουθούνται ή γύρω από τα οφέλη που μπορεί να έχει η ίδια.
