Για τον σκοπό αυτό, μελετήθηκαν 25 δείγματα μπεντονίτη που μας απέστειλε η εταιρεία «Greek Mining Ltd» έπειτα από την δειγματοληψία που διεξήγαγε στην περιοχή. Η ποσοτική ορυκτολογική ανάλυση των ολικών δειγμάτων πραγματοποιήθηκε με τη μέθοδο Rietveld ενώ για τον προσδιορισμό του μεγέθους και της θέσης του φορτίου κρυσταλλικής δομής (ΦΚΔ) εξετάστηκαν τα αργιλικά κλάσματα των μπεντονιτών μετά από κορεσμό με K και Li. Οι χημικές αναλύσεις έγιναν με φασματοσκοπία ακτίνων-X φθορισμού (XRF) χρησιμοποιώντας δισκία τηγμάτων. Κατόπιν, το ΦΚΔ των σμεκτιτών προσδιορίστηκε βάσει της μεθόδου των Christidis &amp; Eberl (2003) και η θέση του ΦΚΔ με τη μέθοδο Green-Kelly. Τέλος, εφαρμόστηκε γεωστατιστική ανάλυση με κώδικα που δόθηκε έτοιμος σε υπολογιστικό περιβάλλον της Matlab, για την εκτίμηση των τιμών διαφόρων παραμέτρων των μπεντονιτών (ορυκτές φάσεις, κύρια χημικά στοιχεία, ΦΚΔ).
