Η κύρια συμβολή του είναι ότι κατάφερε να ερμηνεύσει με επιτυχία τον μοντερνισμό, υπό μία ανθρωπιστική σκοπιά. Στόχος της παρούσας ερευνητικής εργασίας,  είναι να καταδειχθεί η σημασία της φύσης και των στοιχείων που προσφέρει στην αρχιτεκτονική, μέσα από την ανασκόπηση στη σχεδιαστική προσέγγιση του Alvar Aalto. Συγκεκριμένα, αναλύεται ο τρόπος που ο αρχιτέκτονας κατανοεί και αντιλαμβάνεται τους κανόνες της φύσης και ως εκ τούτου, ο τρόπος που την εντάσσει στο έργο του. Διατηρώντας πρωταρχικό παράγοντα στη συνθετική του σκέψη, η εναρμόνιση του εκάστοτε έργου του με το φυσικό περιβάλλον, αποτελεί συνειδητή απόφαση του Aalto.
