Τι προκύπτει, θεωρητικά και πρακτικά, όταν η έννοια της πολυπολιτισμικότητας διαρθρώνεται στη χωρική σκέψη;
Στην ερευνητική αυτήν εργασία εξετάζεται ο δημόσιος χώρος ως τόπος συνύπαρξης, διαχωρισμού και αποκλεισμού, ή, πιο σαφής, ως «κοινός» τόπος, ως τόπος μοιράσματος, επικοινωνίας, οικειότητας, ελεύθερης πολιτισμικής έκφρασης, διαπραγμάτευσης αλλά και χειραφέτησης, ανταγωνισμού και διεκδικήσεων. Επιδιώκεται η ανάλυση της μεταναστευτικής γεωγραφίας, των διαδικασιών διαμόρφωσης γειτονιάς και η καταγραφή των χωροκοινωνικών μεταβολών που λαμβάνουν χώρα στις ανομοιογενείς κοινωνίες. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, το προσφυγικό και μεταναστευτικό ζήτημα εξετάζεται μέσα από την εγκατάσταση των πολιτισμικών μειοψηφιών στην πόλη. 
Πιο συγκεκριμένα, μελετάται το χωρικό αποτύπωμα του μεταναστευτικού και προσφυγικού πληθυσμού στις περιοχές του Δήμου Αθηναίων που χαρακτηρίζονται από πολιτισμική ετερότητα. Η θεματική αναφορικά με τον πολυεθνικό πληθυσμό στον Δήμο Αθηναίων στρέφεται γύρω από τις καθημερινές κατανοήσεις των ευαίσθητων κοινωνικά πληθυσμών, στοχεύοντας στη συσχέτιση της κοινωνικής και χωρικής ένταξης. Διερευνώνται, λοιπόν, οι κλίμακες, οι θεωρήσεις και, τέλος, οι υλικές και συμβολικές διαστάσεις του χώρου που διαμορφώνονται μέσα από την πολυπολιτισμικότητα.
