Μία γειτονιά που ενώ αποτελεί κομμάτι της Παλιάς Πόλης του Ηρακλείου, παραμένει υποβαθμισμένη.
Ιστορικά δομήθηκε για να παραλάβει συμπληρωματικές και υποστηρικτικές λειτουργίες, φιλοξενώντας συνεχώς τα κατώτερα κοινωνικά στρώματα σε συνδυασμό με τον προσφυγικό πληθυσμό.
Σήμερα, η συνοικία αντιμετωπίζει στοιχεία περιθωριοποίησης και αστικής αναδιοργάνωσης με έντονο το αίσθημα της εγκατάλειψης. Σκοπός της εργασίας αυτής είναι η ανάπλαση και η ανάδειξη της περιοχής, με τη δημιουργία υποδομών χρήσεων, δικτύων, αλλά και ελεύθερων χώρων με λειτουργίες συμβατές με τον ήπιο χαρακτήρα της. Κύριο μέλημα της εργασίας, είναι η κοινωνική ένταξη και η αρμονική συνύπαρξη όλων των κοινωνικών ομάδων που βρίσκονται στην περιοχής.
