Αναλογιζόμενοι τον χρόνο που αφιερώνει κανείς σήμερα στην δραστηριότητα της μετακίνησης συνειδητοποιούμε ότι μεγάλο μέρος της καθημερινής ζωής διαδραματίζεται πλέον σε χώρους από τους οποίους διερχόμαστε σχεδόν υποχρεωτικά έτσι ώστε να εκπληρώσουμε συγκεκριμένες ανάγκες μας. Οι φυσικοί αυτοί χώροι στους οποίους μπορεί να εκφραστεί η κινητικότητα είναι οι χώροι μετάβασης. Η συγκεκριμένη εργασία αφορά αυτούς τους χώρους μετάβασης και συγκεκριμένα τις μεταφορικές υποδομές μεγάλης κλίμακας. 
Θεωρώντας πως οι υποδομές αυτές αποτελούν την χωρική έκφραση του φαινομένου της κινητικότητας, η  προσέγγιση πραγματοποιείται τόσο μέσω θεωρητικών αναφορών όσο και μελέτης παραδειγμάτων σύγχρονων κτιρίων. Μια σειρά από παράγοντες όπως η παγκοσμιοποίηση, η ταχύτητα στη ροή ανθρώπων και πληροφοριών, ο καταναλωτισμός, τα νέα μοντέλα κινητικότητας, οι νέες συνθήκες κατοίκησης αλλά και  η ταχύτητα με την οποία αντιδρά η κατασκευαστική βιομηχανία στα νέα αιτήματα και η  αλλαγή των μεθόδων απεικόνισης του χώρου και λειτουργίας των αρχιτεκτονικών γραφείων,  ευνοούν την δημιουργία νέων στρατηγικών στον σχεδιασμό. Υπό αυτό το πρίσμα, παρουσιάζονται σύγχρονα κτίρια μεταφορικών υποδομών και επιχειρείται η εξαγωγή συμπερασμάτων σχετικά με τις σύγχρονες τάσεις σχεδιασμού.  Τα κτίρια τα οποία μελετώνται είναι ο σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός στο Arnhem των UN Studio, o αεροπορικός σταθμός στο Stansted του γραφείου Foster&amp;Partners και o λιμενικός σταθμός του Rem Koolhaas και των ΟΜΑ στην Zeebrugge.
