The role of stiffness grading as a Fourier analyzer is well known, but the role of the curvature has remained elusive. Here, we report that increasing curvature redistributes wave energy density towards the cochlea's outer wall, affecting the shape of waves propagating on the membrane, particularly in the region where low frequency sounds are processed.</efrbr-expression:summarizationOfContent><efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression type="creative-commons">http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/</efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression><efrbr-expression:note type="journal name">Physical Review Letters</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal volume">8</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal number">96</efrbr-expression:note></efrbr-expression:expression><efrbr-person:person identifier="51099C7C-3342-4F37-8806-745671FA78E2"><efrbr-person:nameOfPerson vocabulary="">
