A well known approach in MCDA is preference disaggregation analysis. The preference disaggregation approach refers to the analysis (disaggregation) of the global preferences (judgement policy) of the decision maker in order to identify the criteria aggregation model that underlies the preference result. The objective of this paper is to review the main existing preference disaggregation methodologies and to illustrate their operation using an example from the field of financial modelling involving the credit granting problem.</efrbr-expression:summarizationOfContent><efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression type="creative-commons">http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/</efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression><efrbr-expression:note type="journal name">Operational Research, An International Journal</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal volume">1</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal number">3</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="page range">263-284</efrbr-expression:note></efrbr-expression:expression><efrbr-person:person identifier="http://users.isc.tuc.gr/~kzopounidis"><efrbr-person:nameOfPerson vocabulary="TUC:LDAP">
