It is found that doping TiO2 with cations of valence lower than that of the parent cation (Li+, Zn+2) results in reduction of catalytic activity and enhancement of selectivity towards C2 hydrocarbons formation. The opposite is observed upon doping TiO2 with higher valence cations (Nb+5, Ta+5, W6+).
