In this paper a new MAC protocol for next generation wireless communications is presented and investigated. The protocol uses a combined Packet Discard/Forward Error Correction scheme in order to efficiently integrate MPEG-4 videoconference packet traffic with voice, SMS data and web packet traffic over a noisy wireless channel of high capacity.
