Finite element discretization yields sparse polynomial optimization problems with equality and inequality constraints. For such sparse problems generically appearing singularities along the path of solutions are completely classified. Perturbations involving only a minimal number of parameters are shown to be sufficient to guarantee these generic situations. This clarifies stability and uniqueness questions for the solution along the examined path.</efrbr-expression:summarizationOfContent><efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression type="creative-commons">http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/</efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression><efrbr-expression:note type="journal name">Journal of Global Optimization</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal volume">4</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal number">6</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="page range">347-365</efrbr-expression:note></efrbr-expression:expression><efrbr-person:person identifier="http://users.isc.tuc.gr/~gestavroulakis"><efrbr-person:nameOfPerson vocabulary="TUC:LDAP">
