The mechanical modeling of the studied two-dimensional problem, which includes the effect of unilateral contact along the sides of the crack, is done with the help of the boundary element method. The effect of various dynamical test loads and the applicability of this method for crack and defect identification in disks are investigated.</efrbr-expression:summarizationOfContent><efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression type="creative-commons">http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/</efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression><efrbr-expression:note type="journal name">Computational Mechanics</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal volume">3</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal number">37</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="page range">249-265</efrbr-expression:note></efrbr-expression:expression><efrbr-person:person identifier="http://users.isc.tuc.gr/~gestavroulakis"><efrbr-person:nameOfPerson vocabulary="TUC:LDAP">
