The model is a closely-coupled two-dimensional, hydrodynamic/pollutant transport geographic information systems (GIS) model that operates within arc-view GIS. The use of this GIS based interface module facilitates the improved communication of the basic patterns and relationships associated with hydrodynamic/pollutant transport simulation and the application of this information to water resources, planning and management. Model functionality for data capture, data editing, pre-processing, embedded artificial intelligence, and result interpretation is described. The functionality of this model is illustrated through a case study on Suda Bay located in Crete, Greece.</efrbr-expression:summarizationOfContent><efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression type="creative-commons">http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/</efrbr-expression:useRestrictionsOnTheExpression><efrbr-expression:note type="journal name">Advances in Engineering Software</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal volume">5</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="journal number">32</efrbr-expression:note><efrbr-expression:note type="page range">353–361</efrbr-expression:note></efrbr-expression:expression><efrbr-person:person identifier="http://users.isc.tuc.gr/~gtsanis"><efrbr-person:nameOfPerson vocabulary="TUC:LDAP">
