Η ιδέα αυτής της διπλωματικής γεννήθηκε στα πλαίσια της πρακτικής μου άσκησης το καλοκαίρι του 2013 στην τεχνική υπηρεσία του νοσοκομείου Χανίων και η αιτία ήταν η υψηλή δαπάνη ρεύματος.  
Στην αρχή της εργασίας γίνεται αναφορά στις ανανεώσιμες πηγές ενέργειας δίνοντας περισσότερη έμφαση στην ηλιακή. 
 Ακολούθως, περιγράφονται οι διαδικασίες οι οποίες απαιτούνται για την αδειοδότηση μίας Φ/Β εγκατάστασης, και ακολουθεί προκαταρκτική μελέτη διαστασιολόγησης, τεχνική μελέτη και μελέτη της οικονομικής βιωσιμότητάς του έργου. 
Για την εν λόγω μελέτη χρησιμοποιήθηκαν λογισμικά κατάλληλα για την ανάλυση εγκαταστάσεων φωτοβολταϊκών συστημάτων. Αυτά είναι τα Sunny Design 3 και RETScreen.
