Μέσω βιβλιογραφικής ανάλυσης, εξετάζονται οι βασικές αρχές σχεδιασμού που επηρεάζουν την αίσθηση ασφάλειας, την αυτονομία, την κοινωνική αλληλεπίδραση, την συναισθηματική και την νοητική ευημερία των παιδιών. Το θεωρητικό υπόβαθρο στηρίζεται σε σύγχρονες παιδαγωγικές θεωρίες, όπως η θεωρία των "loose parts" ,η οικολογική αντίληψη και η προσέγγιση της θεωρίας “Form follows kids fiction” , οι οποίες ενισχύουν τη δημιουργικότητα και την ενεργή συμμετοχή των παιδιών. Προτείνεται η υιοθέτηση εργονομικών και αισθητικών κριτηρίων που ενθαρρύνουν τη μάθηση μέσω παιχνιδιού και διαμορφώνονται χώροι οι οποίοι προάγουν την λήψη πρωτοβουλιών, την κοινωνική αλληλεπίδραση και την συναισθηματική σταθερότητα.
