The present study starts from the modern structure of cities, emphasizing their linear function. By examining the potential of existing infrastructure, along with the community engagement, the importance of cities in adopting new practices is highlighted. Through the analysis of collective housing in Europe and Greece, we establish the permanence of structures over time. As a result, they do not fulfil their purpose based on contemporary needs and are often completely demolished and replaced. In view of the environmental challenges of our time, the need to move from linear to circular methods is emphasised. Instead of building new structures, the reuse of existing structures based on new design principles is advocated. Understanding practices that stimulate sustainability and based on examples, a new prototype is presented with the aim of reducing the environmental footprint of cities.
