This thesis concerns the island of Mykonos and the development that has taken place in the last decades in the light of mass tourism. Although the island of Mykonos is known worldwide as one of the best destinations for luxury summer holidays, entertainment and recreation, through its spatial analysis it seems to have a special natural beauty, remarkable traditional architecture and a temperate climate that favours the development of tourist activities. However, the rapid development of mass tourism until the beginning of the 20th century. altered the image and the natural environment of the island and made it necessary to define a residential control area in order to control and regulate the building and uses that would be developed on the island. The aim of this paper is, through this analysis, to come up with proposals for the development of alternative forms of tourism in Mykonos, such as gastronomic, cultural, sports, agrotourism or rural tourism, in order to limit the one-sided development of mass leisure tourism and to highlight other products and activities that the island can offer. In this way, the primary and secondary production sectors, which have disappeared in recent years, can be revitalized and the island can be highlighted as a destination for multiple activities throughout the year.
