Summary

One of the most common types of mechanical failure in induction motors is the eccentricity fault. This causes an uneven air-gap between stator and rotor resulting in unbalanced magnetic pull. This thesis is a study of the electromagnetic components of a 22kW asynchronous machine when it operates under load and static, dynamic and mixed eccentricity faults. The purpose is to analyze the parameters affected by the faults, in relation to the healthy induction machine, in order to prevent them before they become destructive to the machine. First a detailed analysis of induction machines and their finite element approach is presented. Next, the geometry of the induction motor under study is presented and also its appropriate simulation depending on the faults in a finite element program (Ansys Maxwell). Then, the results of the simulations are analyzed to determine the affected parameters. For fault diagnosis, the most common MCSA method was mainly used, which is based on the analysis of the frequency spectrum of the stator currents and provides the harmonics of the static and dynamic eccentricity, as well as the harmonics related to the rotor PSH (Principal Slot Harmonics) in a three-phase induction machine. Also, because the machine produces harmonics PSH associated with the rotor, the SFD-MCSA method was used for the static eccentricity faults. The conclusions drawn during the study of the induction motor provided an analytical picture of the behavior of its parameters in cases of eccentricity faults.
