Summary

To what extent does the combination of color psychology and architecture influence the human mind?Can we stimulate the brain activity of individuals by associating the right hue in a particular space to inspire people to work, study, or even interact socially?How can architects, designers and psychologists work together to create new spaces by applying the psychology of color and drastically change the way people understand the built environment?Human psychology is an extremely complex subject and it is not easy to see a connection between architecture and the way we feel about a particular environment. Each person experiences built space in a unique way due to the uniqueness of human nature. Generalizing the way a certain color can make us feel more energized, depressed or awake is quite bold.However, the goal of this research is to prove the existence of a connection between human psychology and space and to investigate it in order to improve the functionality of the structured world.The study first explores the history of color and its use throughout time in different cultures. It then compiles the views and theories of various scientists, painters, and architects from Goethe to Itten and from Le Corbusier to Bofill. The main part of the study deals with the nature of color and its aspects such as its chemical composition or its use by famous painters in works of art, but also with its psychological influence on architecture. The paper tries to provide a scientific explanation of the "what", "why" and "how" of color, which becomes necessary for the analysis of the psychological impact of its use. Ultimately, the goal is to prove that color is more than a simple surface coating.
