Summary

Wax deposition represents one of the problems flow assurance engineers are dealing with during oil production and transportation. Wax deposition usually occurs during the cooling of the reservoir fluid as heavy paraffinic compounds are precipitating and forming solid. If the wax formed is not removed mechanically on time or the appearance of the wax is not avoided using certain chemicals (inhibitors), the amount of precipitated wax within transporting pipeline or producing well might build up and cause huge operational costs which is the reason why predicting the wax appearance conditions is significant. Once the phase behavior of the fluid is predicted, we can avoid wax deposition by keeping the fluid apart from wax deposition conditions.The purpose of this work is to critically evaluate wax appearance temperature (temperature at which wax starts to form under certain pressure), wax disappearance temperature (temperature at which wax starts to dissolve under certain pressure) and wax content. For this purpose, three PVT simulation software packages were used: Calsep`s PVTsim, KBC’s Multiflash and HydraFact’s HydraFLASH. The results obtained from the models were compared to the experimental data gathered from the publicly available literature.
