Summary

In recent years, more and more people are turning to a healthier type of livingwith more exercising and better diet. For this reason, there is an increase in thenumber of subscriptions in gyms. At the same time, there is an increasedinterest in creating software in order to optimize the performance of athletes, but also to ensure a more enjoyable experience. In this diploma thesis, wedeveloped a system consisting of two applications, in order to serve thecomplete and efficient operation of a gym: (a) a web application, and (b) anapplication for android devices. More specifically, the secretariat of the gymcan, through this application, create, process, and manage data about the staff, customers and various activities of the gym. In addition, the trainers can create, store and send exercising and fitness programs to customers. The customers canreceive and execute these programs, tracking progress through their mobiledevices. Finally, there is a reservation system for group exercising and fitnessprograms, through which the customers of the gym can book a seat to any ofthese programs. The Laravel framework was used for the development of theweb application, while the integrated programming environment AndroidStudio and the Java programming language were used for the one that concernsmobile devices. System data are stored in a MySQL database andcommunication is based on REST services.
