The dimension stone industry is a sector of major importance for our country. From mining procedures to the sale of the final raw or finished product, it involves many stages of cutting and processing of dimension stones using diamond or hard metal cutting, grinding and polishing tools. These are concisely and comprehensively presented in this Diploma Thesis. This study provides an overview and analysis of modern and older methods and techniques of cutting dimension stones, designed in the light of the technical characteristics, properties and differences between the various rocks cited therein. It also analyses statistics relevant to the sector, as well as the significant contribution of this industry to the Greek economy. Finally, through an effort to offer future perspectives of the industry, there are recommended processes to improve areas in need of further research and proposes the incorporation of new technologies with the aim of greater security, shorter production times and capital and energy savings.
