The environmental crisis has made critical the need for greener housingsolutions. In Greece, the construction department has yet to provideenvironmentally friendly houses and is far behind compared to other countriesthat have made serious advancements in low-cost energy living. Sinceconstruction is scarce in Greece because of the economic crisis that prevails inthe last 10 years, the trend now is to renovate existing buildings, thus promotinginvestments in renewable energy and reducing their environmental footprint. TheEuropean Union, in order to promote greener housing, funds these kinds ofrenovations up to 70%. In this case study, we get a public building, a city hall, under the scope of its energy requirements. According to the Energy Performanceof Buildings Directive, we conduct the energy certificate of the building andprovide guidelines that will reduce its energy footprint, alongside with costevaluations and investment depreciations.
