While there have been many individual attempts to integrate plastic and plasticity into architectural design, to date this material has not received a place in architectural production analogous to the more ''traditional'' architectural materials such as wood, metal and reinforced concrete. This research paper addresses the issue of plastic in architecture and searches for the causes of its not widespread use in this field, analyzing its properties and applications in the architectural and construction sectors. A critical element in this search is the environmental dimension of plastic materials and the potential obstacles that arise from it. Solutions to these obstacles that are being analyzed are the applications of recycled and reusable plastics to architecture, as well as the application of new technological advances in plastics that promote the principle of sustainability, such as bioplastics. Through all these, is being explored the existence of a "Plastic Architecture", its features, its contribution to architecture aesthetically and technically, and the possibilities for future evolution and further growth.
