The present dissertation analyses the architecture of the settlement of Valtessiniko in Arcadia, in terms of typology and construction of traditional buildings and at the same time records its current condition.Traditional architecture is an integral part of Greece's architectural heritage and its preservation is essential. For this reason, the concept of traditional architecture is analysed, and the influences of the traditional craftsmen of the Peloponnese are studied. An attempt is being made to investigate the structure of Valtessiniko and analyse the way in which the village developed. Typical dwellings are described and their characteristics are recorded, with emphasis on the analysis of volumes, forms-style and modes of construction. This is followed by an analysis of the construction and morphological characteristics. The research also deals with the understanding of the current condition of the village. More specifically, the age, heights and state of preservation of all buildings is mapped. Based on the record of the compatibility of additions to old buildings, the degree of alteration of the original form of the settlement is evaluated, in order to seek the causes of the problem. The current state of buildings in Valtessiniko raises a matter of concern for the future of traditional architecture. This dissertation attempts to bring to the surface the issue of traditional settlements of which the architectural identity has been altered. Through the effort to highlight the current condition, the aim is to raise general awareness on issues of architectural heritage. The question of whether the problem can be resolved or whether the damage to the settlement is so serious that can be described as irreversible, is critical.
