Summary

The subject of this thesis is an innovative digital micromirror device for controlling the spectral intensity of broad-spectrum light sources. In the world of optical science, there are already Tunable Light Sources (TLS) based on different technologies, such as lasers (Distributed Bragg Reflector, Distributed Feedback, Ion and Dye), tunable filters (Liquid Crystal, Optical Parametric Oscillator and Acousto-optic) and others. These sources have significant disadvantages, such as low throughput, high cost, and low power efficiency. Another important limitation on their performance is that they usually can project less than ten simultaneous wavelengths with a range delimited by the peaks of each spectral curve. The optical device presented in this thesis is capable of projecting any available spectrum in a curved form, getting over the limitation of peaks that could be projected by tunable light sources until now. This innovative device is supported by appropriate software that enables fully computer-controlled operation. At this point, it should be noted that the present study was based on a pre-existing model, the subject of prior thesis work that was modified at both architectural and software level.
