Photovoltaic systems often face partial shadowing phenomena, which adversely affect their energy efficiency. The purpose of this thesis is to design dynamically reconfigurable photovoltaic arrays in order to maximize the output power. The difference from conventional photovoltaic arrays is the use of switches that rearrange the electrical connections between the photovoltaic panels of the array. Switch control signals are generated by the rearrangement algorithms. As part of this thesis, a MATLAB / SIMULINK photovoltaic system consisting of a reconfigurable photovoltaic array, a power converter and a control unit to maximize the output power (Maximum Power Point Tracking, MPPT) and photovoltaic panels was designed and simulated three alternative rearrangement algorithms. The output power of the reconfigurable photovoltaic arrays was compared under various shading conditions with the resulting output power applying the Module-Integrated Converter topology, which was also simulated using a suitable model developed in the MATLAB / SIMULINK environment.
