The quantification of analytical results is crucial for material characterization and further development of applications. In the framework of the present dissertation, the partitioning of different mineral phases in Greek and American bentonites, was investigated by the means of X-ray diffracrion (XRD), combined with the Rietveld method. The results, were both qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated with the utilization of EVA and Autoquan softwere packages. The interpretation of the experimental results, pointed that Greek bentonites, contain up to 90% smectite, and can be characterized as high purity materials, as they contain only 5 mineral phases. These properties make Greek bentonites more suitable for industrial application related with metallurgy, drilling and ceramics, compared with the studied samples from the United States of America.
