Summary

The 21st century is increasingly frequent phenomenon of urbanization, namely the tendency people have to be concentrated in large urban centers. One of the many negative effects of the phenomenon is the backlog of vehicles in cities. Consequently this causes many problems relating to air pollution by the transport load on the streets. So is a necessity, the creation of a network for recording and control of air quality in urban areas and to find ways to improve.This Diploma Thesis examines the quality of the air in the external environment of the town of Rethymno, and whether it is affected by the transportations of citizens. Recording and control, became with 2 ways. Initial systematic measurements were made, CO2, NO2, CO and noise at 9 measuring points in a circular route through the city. At the same time was taking meteorological data to assess how they affect the results. The measurements were made in 3 different seasons (winter, spring, summer) to determine the variation of pollutants within the year. Then received data for the corresponding parameters specified measuring circles, from the permanently installed measuring stations inside the town of Rethymno.
