As part of socioeconomic development and the effects that degrade the modern city and the quality of residents’ life, the public space is being fragmented while urban voids of every scale are developing, inside and outside of the urban fabric. Their existence gives to the contemporary city an option of discontinuity, disorientation and shrinkage of space, while under a general search for alternative regeneration solutions for the reconstruction of urban fabric and regeneration of cities, we focus in the depth to dormancy spaces which are displayed a big variety of possibilities to redefine their character as well as their reintegration into the city mechanism. In this project we are studying the urban voids in spatial and perceptual level, their prospects as places of recreating the public character of urban green-spaces, moreover, the procedure of their restoration and reintegration via the international bibliography. The reuse of the urban voids as solution for the redefinition of public space in urban fabric, is specialized to the utilization of abandoned airports as oversized areas which provide varied exploitation possibilities for the sustainability of contemporary cities. The survey examines examples of reusing the airports from worldwide experience and the European places, so the military areas as the civilian ones, resulting in reuse approaches of airports in Greece and also the redevelopment submissions for the Hellinikon airport. In the final stage, there is an evaluation of regeneration examples that have been referred above as characteristic ones of reuse abandoned international and European-wide airports as well as the submissions of Hellinikon airport.
