Summary

A low cost, embedded, reconfigurable device for motion detectionof kinetically challenged persons has been developed. This paperpresents the methods by which the device can be adapted toindividual user’s needs. The accelerometer data inputs areprocessed by the determination of the dominant axis of eachmotion, and by the determination of thresholds and delays thatcan be used to customize the system to individual needs. Theresulting system is a highly adaptable input device whichmaintains the low cost constraints of less than $70.
