Summary

A novel idea of controlling the concentration of ozone in the troposphere by applying femtosecond filamented ultraviolet laser pulses is investigated in laboratory conditions. Due to the local formation of ozone above highly polluted urban areas there is a lack of control in a global manner. In the present work, ozone photolysis was carried out by applying ultraviolet laser pulses at various schemes: a) nanosecond pulses at 308 nm and b) femtosecond pulses (unfilamented and filamented) at 248 nm. The results showed, that ozone photolysis at 248 nm by femtosecond filamented beam is much stronger than a 308 nm focused nanosecond one by a factor of 10 on the total time of ozone decomposition.
