Night Ventilation is a critical technique of passive cooling, as itcombines a significant decrease of cooling demand and improvement ofthermal comfort and indoor air quality. The aim of the present paper is to study the technical and legal aspectsof night ventilation in urban climatic conditions. The technical partexamines the efficiency of night ventilation techniques for urbanresidential buildings. Moreover, the influence of urban heat island onthe night ventilation effectiveness is studied. Urban heat provokes thedegradation of urban air quality and causes changes in the urban areamicroclimate which reduce the night ventilation effectiveness as apassive cooling technique. Moreover, this paper studies the legalframework of energy efficiency in buildings and pinpoints theinstitutional deficiencies of the existing regulation regarding energyefficiency and passive cooling techniques.
