The global trend in reducing the energy consumption in the building sector is expressed by the energy auditing of existing buildings as well as by the design of new energy efficient buildings. Energy audit requires thermal simulations during a building’s lifetime, while the visualization of their results facilitates the analysis of building’s thermal characteristics. For this purpose an online platform was developed which uses an International Foundation Class (IFC), BuildingInformation Model (BIM) server in conjuction with a building thermal simulation program SRC (System of Resistances and Capacitances) and the second level space boundary generation program CBIP (Common Boundary Intersection Projection), in order to produce visualization of 3D building designs as well as their thermal simulation results following a specific color pattern. The platform was tested not only on single buildings but also on larger building blocks.
