In modern times digital images have a big role in the storage and transmission of information. However due to the large size of a digital image , the application of methods to reduce the size is necessary for the storage and the faster transmission. These methods are called compression methods and are applied to almost every picture. There are adequate and efficient compression methods but technology advances and new methods are invented. One such compression method is the WebP compression algorithm which is developed in order to replace all current compression methods for still and animated images. This thesis tried the development of the WebP compression algorithm in a hardware system for the wuicker and more efficient application. The main methods developed include the prediction methods for the compression of the image in order to reduce correlation between neighboring pixels.
