Within the dense urban fabric and the uncontrolled western development of the city of Heraklion, an intervention with a cultural and recreational character is being attempted with the aim of reviving the space. The study area is located outside the defined city center, but in direct contact with the sea, the landscape and other landmarks. The intervention consists of a new paving in areas of the urban fabric, point building interventions, the conversion of the moat into a recreational area and constructions along the entire length of the intervention. At the Pantokrator bastion, a new entrance from the urban fabric is being designed and the cultural building is being placed, in the image of the Venetian Wall. The square is characterized by elements observed in the surroundings of the study area, such as water, stone and soil, while at the same time it is integrated, through a bridge/shelter, into the modern complex of buildings, which formerly constituted one of the first self-created Asia Minor settlements. In the bastion of Agios Andreas, in the northern part of the study area, buildings and structures with catering/market uses are designed, in an effort to strengthen the emerging cultural character. Finally, part of the coastal avenue is transformed into a bridge, thus creating the necessary connection of the moat with the coastal intervention of Karavola, fully unifying the study of the space.
