Summary

This paper focuses on the study and investigation of the use of the architectural model, aiming to understand it as a fundamental design tool. Its historical evolution is examined, beginning in antiquity, where architectural maquettes at a smaller scale were used for the conception and representation of structures. Within this context, a comparative approach is attempted between the physical model and modern methods of three-dimensional digital modeling, with the aim of understanding the advantages and limitations of each technique. Finally, various model-making techniques are presented, along with different interpretations of their use and processing, as well as selected examples from architectural history and contemporary architectural practice, highlighting the model as a tool for thinking, experimentation, and creative exploration.
