| Content Summary | Η ξηρασία είναι μία από τις σημαντικότερες προκλήσεις της εποχής μας, με επιπτώσεις που επηρεάζουν τα οικοσυστήματα, την οικονομία και τις ανθρώπινες κοινωνίες. Καθώς η παγκόσμια θερμοκρασία αυξάνεται λόγω του φαινομένου του θερμοκηπίου, είναι φυσικό επακόλουθο τα φαινόμενα της ξηρασίας να γίνονται συχνότερα και να παρουσιάζουν μεγαλύτερη ένταση και διάρκεια. Η ξηρασία ως φυσικό φαινόμενο είναι η έλλειψη υδάτινων πόρων με δυσμενείς επιπτώσεις στο φυσικό περιβάλλον, ενώ επηρεάζει αρνητικά την οικονομία και την καθημερινότητα των ανθρώπων. Στη Μεσόγειο ιδιαίτερα, περιοχή η οποία θεωρείται σημείο αναφοράς υπερθέρμανσης, είναι λογικό να παρουσιάζονται μοναδικές προκλήσεις, όπως παρατεταμένες ξηρασίες, οι οποίες θα μελετηθούν στη συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση. Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία εστιάζει στον υπολογισμό και την εφαρμογή του δείκτη SPI από μετεωρολογικά δεδομένα των τελευταίων 70 χρόνων. Στόχος είναι η ταυτοποίηση περιόδων ξηρασίας στον ελλαδικό χώρο και η δημιουργία χαρτών που απεικονίζουν τη διάρκεια, την ένταση και την εξάπλωση των ξηρασιών προκειμένου να συμβάλλουν στη διαχείριση των υδάτινων πόρων και στην κατανόηση των κλιματικών τάσεων. Ως αποτέλεσμα, αναπτύχθηκε ένας «Άτλας» ξηρασίας για την Ελλάδα (1951–2020), παρέχοντας πληροφορίες σχετικά με την εμφάνιση, τις επιπτώσεις και τους κινδύνους των ξηρασιών στη χώρα. | el |
| Content Summary | Drought is one of the most significant challenges of our time, with far-reaching consequences for ecosystems, the economy, and human societies. As global temperatures rise due to the greenhouse effect, it is expected that drought events will become more frequent, intense, and prolonged. Drought, as a natural phenomenon, is characterized by water scarcity, leading to adverse effects on the environment, while also negatively impacting the economy and daily human activities. The Mediterranean region, in particular, is considered a hotspot for global warming, making it highly susceptible to unique challenges such as prolonged drought periods, which will be examined in this study. This thesis focuses on the calculation and application of the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) based on meteorological data from the past 70 years. The primary objective is to identify drought periods in Greece and develop maps that illustrate the duration, intensity, and spatial extent of drought events. These findings aim to support water resource management and enhance the understanding of climatic trends. As an outcome, a Drought Atlas for Greece (1951–2020) was created, providing valuable insights into the occurrence, impacts, and risks associated with droughts in the country. | en |
