This diploma thesis focuses on the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured nickel catalysts for the dry reforming of methane (DRM). The DRM process is a highly promising technology, as it utilizes the greenhouse gases methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) for the production of synthesis gas (syngas), with applications in hydrogen, fuel, and chemical production. The study includes the preparation of nickel (Ni) catalysts via a hydrothermal method, primarily using mixed cerium oxides (CeO₂), along with modifications using metals such as magnesium (Mg), zirconium (Zr), and zinc (Zn), in order to enhance the catalysts’ properties. The synthesized materials are characterized through physicochemical techniques and are catalytically evaluated in CO oxidation and DRM reactions. The aim of the thesis is to develop catalysts with high activity, stability, and resistance to carbon formation, contributing to environmental and energy sustainability.
