Some of the key issues in the aluminium industry are the price of raw materials and the cost of energy for production. The production of aluminium is far from easy so this thesis focuses on the financial side of it. More specifically, aluminium production companies in Europe that are facing difficulties in relation to competition will be analysed. Thus, a multi-criteria analysis is performed on financial data of aluminium production companies in Europe in order to evaluate their profitability. Very important is also the economic structure of aluminium production worldwide .For this reason it is necessary to emphasize the difference between foundries and aluminium production industries in final form as well as the difference between primary and secondary aluminium production in Europe which have different costs of raw material and energy consumed .Finally it is vital to understand the close link between aluminium production and energy production .
