The objective of this thesis is the development of a unified macro- and micro-scale traffic and urban planning framework for the historic center of Athens, using sustainable urban mobility as the primary tool. To achieve this goal, the study begins with the identification and analysis of the traffic-related issues affecting the city center. Subsequently, targeted interventions and refinements are proposed in relation to the existing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) of the Municipality of Athens. Within this context, the study includes proposals for the utilization of underused spaces in the city center, as well as the design of new routes and the enhancement of existing ones, based on the principles of sustainable mobility. A core concern of this approach is to reinforce and redefine the pedestrian experience within the historic core.
