The design approach to movement space on an urban scale appears to both influence and be significantly influenced by its counterpart within residential buildings. The validation of this working hypothesis is explored through case studies of two characteristic streets that were constructed during the examined periods, comparing them both with representative dwellings of their respective eras and with each other. For the interpretation of the findings, the analytical framework defined by C. Dekavalla in his book Walking in towns and cities. The architecture of pedestrian space is employed for the urban scale, along with its architectural-scale equivalents as defined by the author. Specifically, the study focuses on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue in the late 19th century and Patision Street at the peak of the first wave of Modernism in Greece during the interwar period. Subsequently, the corresponding spatial axes within residential interiors of these periods are analyzed, with further insights drawn from case studies.
