ΠερίληψηThe estimation of Healthy life expectancy (HLE) is an old venture, an effort of numerous researchers worldwide during the last decades to develop a suitable, effective and precise relevant methodology. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already developed an efficient but highly complicated procedure based on the “Global Burden of Disease Study”, details of each are seen on the relevant website (https://www.who.int/-data/gho/-data/themes-/mortality-and-global-health-estimates/ghe-life-expectancy-and-healthy-life-expectancy). In any case, the direct knowledge of a population’s HLE is necessary not only for researchers of mortality and longevity but also as an essential tool for policymakers and the public administration. Currently, knowledge of past trends and levels of healthy life expectancy is absent, despite the availability of mortality data. This is because of data absence on disability and disease, which are required in these approaches. This paper presents an innovative method, allowing the direct estimation of Healthy Years Lost (HLYL) because of diseases and disabilities, and thus the healthy life expectancy from lifetable data. This method has been tested and verified via a series of additional methods (like a Weibull parameter test, a Gompertz parameter alternative). Additionally, the HLE estimations follow those of WHO closely.en
