The subject of the research paper is the presentation and study of traditional settlements located in the wider area of Kissamos, in the village of Platanos. Initially, the concept of the settlement and the necessity of developing residential complexes in general are discussed. This is followed by a brief historical overview of Crete and a short analysis of the island's natural and human-made environment. Then, the residential character of the area is presented, always in relation to historical, geomorphological, and economic factors. There is also a brief reference to the history, morphology, and specific characteristics of the Kissamos region, and by extension, the village of Platanos. The settlements that form or surround the village are mentioned, and the traditional settlements of Agioi Pantes, Vryses, Monoplatanos, Kavousi, and Riza are recorded and analyzed. The paper focuses on the urban and architectural characteristics of these complexes, the evaluation of their urban richness, the organization of the layout, the typology and character of the buildings, their role in today's socio-economic context, and proposes measures for the preservation of the architectural heritage and its historical continuity.
