The present study investigates the way with which the meaning of the atmosphere is applied to the field of architecture, examining different architectural aspects and elements, which they are not only restricted on the functional and technical resolution of an architectural composition, but they intend to the creation of a complete experience and the atmosphere creation as well. Our study is divided in two parts. The first part begins with a general approach of the atmosphere meaning. After that, the architectural aspects and elements which form the atmosphere in the architectural space are researched and furthermore a report and an analysis of the chosen examples of atmosphere spaces are made. In the second part our intention was to identify all these architectural elements and aspects on chosen buildings which captured our interest on our visit in New York and Tokyo. The methodology that we followed is based on bibliographic research, study and statements of philosopher’s and theoretical architect’s opinions, on experiential research and on reporting of personal observations.
