Summary

The TrafficFluid concept allows vehicles to move in a lane-free environment and enables capacity sharing between two directions without lane restrictions. In this context, Internal Boundary Con-trol (IBC) has recently been introduced by the authors and its application has been investigated using macroscopic models. This paper presents a microscopic simulation-based validation of IBC using SUMO TrafficFluid-Sim, i.e. a simulation tool able to implement lane-free traffic. A Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR), that is a feedback control scheme, is employed for IBC. An extension of the well-known Cell Transmission Model (CTM) is utilized for the design of the controller. Simulation investigations confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
